NEW! Floret Originals Dahlias (in 6" pots)

$12.00
SOLD OUT

We’re SO SO excited to be growing these NEW TO THE WORLD varieties of Floret Originals Dahlias — just wait until you experience them!

After YEARS of meticulously breeding, growing, selecting and saving seed (yes, seed from dahlias!), Floret offered seed of these four to-die-for mixes for the first time this year.

We grabbed up every one and started the seeds in January, then bumped them up TWICE into larger and larger pots and NOW they’re ready to go out into our own special cutting garden — and yours too! Please keep in mind that these are ‘mixes’ so every plant will be unique!

If you grow one that you absolutely adore, be sure to save the tuber.

  • ‘Bee’s Choice’ - Collected across all of Floret’s breeding patches. Most of the flowers will have open centers, which will attract lots of pollinators to your garden.

  • ‘Cancan Girls’ - This mix has a dazzling rainbow of tufted blooms in all shapes and sizes, many with the anemone flower form.

  • ‘Petite Florets’ - The seed of this mix orginated from a single plant on Floret’s farm. Soft range of pastels with a beautiful iridescent wash. A large percent are either collaretes or anemones. Magical!

  • ‘Shooting Stars’ - Incredible range of star-shaped flowers, including singles, collarettes, orchettes, orchids and more!

TO GROW

Dahlias grown from seed will produce tubers their first year (in fact, these babies are are already growing little tubers!). You can easily save tuber clumps of your favorites to grow again next year!

Dahlias are sun lovers and bloom best with 8 hours of full sun (some afternoon shade is also OK). Carefully transplant from the 6” pot into your cutting garden (or big container) at the same depth as they are in the container. During planting, add a tall sturdy stake to support what will become a big plant, or a tall tomato cage also works. Space 12” apart.

When plants are 12” tall, cut the main growing stems back by 4”, just above a leaf node (yes, even if there’s a bud on the stem!). This way your plants branch out and produce A LOT more blooms! Water deeply 2-3 times a week and fertilize every 2-3 weeks.

Complete growing instructions are included with each plant.

Ht: 30-40+”
